Hi there! I’m a biomedical scientist turned science journalist based in Washington, DC.
Over the years I’ve held a range of titles, including science researcher, editor, and video host. In 2018, I completed my PhD in Biomedical Science at the University of California San Diego. Today I’m the executive producer & co-host of the science podcast Tiny Matters, as well as a freelance journalist and fact-checker. I’ve written for outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, National Geographic, Scientific American, New Scientist, and Nature. I’m the former DC Science Writers Association president and the winner of an Eric and Wendy Schmidt Award for Excellence in Science Communications, given by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
This website has examples of my work in print/online, audio, and video from the last few years. If you’re interested in working with me I’m always open to a 15 minute discovery call. Don’t hesitate to reach out over email: samjscience [at] sjoneswriting [dot] com.
