Hi there! I’m a biomedical scientist turned science journalist based in Washington, DC.

Over the years I’ve held a range of titles, including science researcher, editor, and video host. In 2018, I completed my PhD in Biomedical Science at the University of California San Diego. Today I’m the executive producer & co-host of the science podcast Tiny Matters, as well as a freelance journalist, fact-checker, and occasional copywriter. I’ve written for outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, National Geographic, Scientific American, New Scientist, and Nature. I’m the current president of the DC Science Writers Association.

This website has examples of my work in print/online, audio, and video from the last few years. If you’re interested in working with me I’m always open to a 15 minute discovery call. Don’t hesitate to reach out over email: samjscience [at] sjoneswriting [dot] com
