About Sam

I’m a research scientist turned science writer based in Washington, DC.

After completing my PhD in biomedical science at the University of California, San Diego in 2018 I moved back to the east coast to pursue science communication full-time.

I currently work for the American Chemical Society (ACS) as the writer and host of the PBS Digital Studios series Reactions, and the ACS podcast Orbitals. I’m also the co-creator and host of STEMpod.

In my spare time I freelance for outlets like Psychology Today and do more technical, industry-focused writing on occasion. If I’m not chatting about science or reading a good piece of fiction, you can find me playing outside with my potato puppy Yuca.
